An Iranian state television channel was interrupted for a few seconds this Saturday evening, October 8, after being hacked by a group supporting the protests in Iran. During the news, they broadcast an image of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, surrounded by flames and marked by a target on his face. At the bottom of the screen, photos of four women killed during the latest protests in the country were shown along with a message, “The blood of our youth is dripping from your fingers.” “It is time to put away your furniture (…) and find another place for your family outside Iran,” read another message accompanying the photos.
The death toll of the protest is rising
Iran has been rocked by protests since the September 16 death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman. She died three days after being arrested by the morality police in Tehran for allegedly violating the Islamic Republic’s strict dress code for women, which includes wearing the veil. The Oslo-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR) has reported at least 95 deaths in the crackdown on protests since September 16. According to the latest Iranian report, about 60 people were killed in late September, including a dozen police officers.
