According to an annual report by the Pentagon “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China”, the Chinese are plowing ahead with military space capabilities, despite its public face of being against militarization of space. While it officially advocates for the peaceful use of space and is pursuing agreements in the UN for non-weaponization of space, PRC’s true agenda seems to be behind this veneer.

This highlights the importance of space systems cybersecurity more than ever. China has developed and will continue to develop weapons for use against satellites in orbit in order to degrade and deny adversaries space capabilities. Its purpose is to surpass the United States in terms of space power. We need to start taking steps in order to declare our space systems a critical infrastructure, which will make our adversaries think twice about attacking our CIs, unless they are prepared to meet military retaliation.
