Mark Holmes writing for Via Satellite announced a recent agreement for SES and NorthStar to partner on the development of a next-gen commercial space situational awareness service. This new deal is grounded on a prior development where the two companies partnered to work towards a more sustainable orbital environment. While current ground-based radars allow for a rough idea of the size, shape, position, and speed of an object – as well as its orbit – this new collaboration will significantly increase the precision of the tracking of space debris and other objects. Overall, the safety and security of nations with assets in space will improve. Combined, the two companies will be operating more than 50 spacecraft from vast, advanced ground networks.
