The article I wanted to talk about, link below, is from the CyberNews outlet. It concerns a massive cyber attack on victims of the faulty CrowdStrike software that affected countless people last week.
The article is written by Paulina Okunyte, describes everyone’s worst fear… being attacked at your most vulnerable. So as the story plays out, so many people were affected negatively by the faulty software update from CrowdStryke. As a result, those people were left in either a weakened cybersecurity posture or crippled in a “blue screen of death”. Those malicious actors seeking to continue to inflict harm and strike when it was most advantageous to them decided to target individuals in Germany. They posed as a legitimate entity attempting to fix the crowd strike issue by providing software to report the original crash/glitch or problem. The only issue was that instead of uploading a report to start the process to fix the issue, the unsuspecting people ended up making matters worse and uploaded malicious software onto their computers. No resolution for this issue was discussed, which leads me to believe it is still ongoing.
I wanted to bring this article to light, not only because of its relevance to the heartache many millions of people are feeling right now, but to advise caution. Many people, myself included have found our selves in a terrible situation and in hopes of cheering ourselves up and stay motivated convince ourselves that, well at least it can’t get worst from here. The sad fact of the matter is that it can, so that stance can in fault lead to a lax sense of situational awareness and this more problems. As hard as it is, in situations like last weeks, you must always remain aware and cautious. There are too many bad actors out there looking to capitalize on tragedy.
Respectfully
Eric A
