OneWeb launches alternative navigation service amid GPS vulnerability concerns – SpaceNews
The satellite communications company, OneWeb, introduced a new GPS system amid global security concerns regarding their GPS vulnerability to jamming and interference in sectors including defense and aerospace. The communications system is designed to be able to ensure clear and uninterrupted communications when certain GPS or other global navigation systems are unavailable. This relates to cybersecurity in various ways. The previous system was vulnerable to jamming and interference of the signals, which is a great cyber threat to anyone using the system. Assuming government agencies would not use this program, however, individuals who use this can be compromised when they are relying on this service in times of need, when traditional signals are not available.
