Deloitte Report: Space Cyber Vulnerabilities & Ways to Remediate

The recent Deloitte report highlights critical cyber vulnerabilities within the space sector and provides recommendations for enhancing security. It emphasizes the increasing threat of cyberattacks as space systems become more interconnected and reliant on digital infrastructure. The report outlines that nearly 10,000 active satellites, with numbers projected to double every 18 months, significantly raise the risk of cyber threats across various space segments, including satellites, ground stations, and communication links.

Deloitte advocates for a “secure-by-design” approach, encouraging the integration of cybersecurity measures throughout the design and development processes of space systems. Key recommendations include improving real-time threat detection capabilities, fostering collaboration among industry stakeholders for information sharing, and establishing cybersecurity protocols across the entire supply chain.

The report warns that failure to address these vulnerabilities could lead to severe economic, national security, and environmental repercussions, as cyber incidents could disrupt not only space operations but also broader critical infrastructure.
