What a 2nd Trump administration could mean for NASA and space exploration | Space

As we all know, there was a presidential election last week. Anytime there is a change in office, the budget change of government agencies is always up in the air. This article describes how a Donald Trump administration may affect the NASA budget in a positive or negative way. Under the Trump administration from 2017-2021, the Artemis missions began and the Space Force was founded. Many believe that under the new administration, NASA budget and space funding will remain strong. One aspect that this article mentions is the relationship between Elon Musk and Donald Trump. Some believe that this relationship will positively benefit SpaceX and the development of Starship. However, the article also touches on the difficulty that the Trump administration will have to push a space heavy agenda, given the other more pressing issues in our country.

An increase in funding to the space sector in both government and private industries would have a positive impact on the cyber world. And obviously, a decrease in funding would negatively impact the cyber world. As we have discussed in class and even seen in real life missions, cyber is not the first thing to be considered on a space mission. In fact, in some cases it is not considered at all. If funding is decreased by the government for space development, cyber would most likely be one of the first departments to be relieved, leaving our systems significantly more vulnerable to attacks. Space is only going to grow over the next four years of this new administration, so budget could play a critical role in cybersecurity of our space missions.
