Based on a recent article on spacenews.
Intelligence data from space can be easily used for surveillance of many types. Some times these technologies can be used for good, like tracking genocides and prison camps. Most other times it is for possibly to gain a strategic advantage through information asymmetry. With the commercialization of space, companies focusing on analytics using ground and space-based sensors and pattern recognition algorithms to infer facts about the collected data.
Whats interesting here is that the data collected by a lot of these sensors can be flagged as classified. This raises another concern over commercialization. If most of these sensors are collecting classified data then how does commercialization and innovation flourish. It would be interesting to see if verifiable computation approaches as used to infer and compute on other sensitive data such as health/medical and PII would be used in the space-sector in the future.
